Read this year's Christmas Newsletter (click here for PDF file). The Dominican Nuns at Marbury are a community of Roman Catholic cloistered contemplative nuns belonging to the Order of Preachers, which was founded by St. Dominic in the 13th century for the preaching of the Gospel and the salvation of souls. What is a Dominican monastic vocation?
“As the Lord Jesus, the Savior of all, offered Himself completely for our salvation, [the nuns] consider themselves to be truly His members primarily when they are spending themselves totally for souls.” We accomplish this total gift of self through loving observance of our Dominican monastic life. “Outstanding among [its] elements are common life, the celebration of the liturgy and private prayer, the observance of the vows and the study of sacred truth. To fulfill these faithfully, we are helped by enclosure, silence, the habit, work, and penitential practices.” Our community keeps Eucharistic Adoration and the Perpetual Rosary as Our Lady’s Guard of Honor, as we live out St. Louis Marie de Montfort’s Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. Our community's motto is UT OMNES UNUM SINT, "that all may be one" (John 17:21). We also sing the major hours of the Divine Office in Latin using our traditional Dominican chant. WelcomeOur Monastery chapel is open during daylight hours for those who wish to come and join us for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Divine Office, or Eucharistic Adoration. Daily Mass is normally at 9:00 a.m. on Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, although the time is subject to change. The monastery prayer schedule can be found on the Daily Life page. We hope this site will help introduce you to the contemplative monastic life of the Dominican Nuns of the Monastery of St. Jude.
