Sanctifying our Work – Fatima Centenary

The Fatima Centenary This year, 2017, is the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady to the three shepherd children at Fatima.  The 13th of each month from May to October, the actual anniversaries of the apparitions, are special days to honor Our Lady and obtain a plenary indulgence. How are we observing this special year?  One thing we are doing is reading a book written by Sister Lucia, the one of the shepherd children who grew up and became a Carmelite nun.  She wrote “Calls” from the Message of Fatima to answer the many questions she was asked about the meaning of the apparitions.  Here we would like … Continue reading

Pilgrim Rosary Celebration and Recordings

Happy feast of All Saints! In celebration, here are the recordings from our Pilgrim Rosary celebration held last week on the vigil and feast of St. Jude. In his conferences, Fr. Gabriel Torretta, O.P. drew on the image of pilgrim movement from place to place in order to reflect profoundly on how, in union with Mary, the mysteries of the Rosary draw us deeply into the presence of God. For each celebration, after the conference we put the meditation to good use by praying the Rosary with the hymn and antiphons from the Dominican Office for the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.  (Joyful Mysteries Booklet PDF) The Joyful … Continue reading

Eucharistic Adoration with Our Lady

This meditation by St. Peter Julian Eymard seemed preeminently suitable for the feast of Corpus Christi during the month of Our Lady. Mary’s Prayer of Adoration Mary devoted herself exclusively to the Eucharistic glory of Jesus. She knew that it was the desire of the Eternal Father to make the Eucharist known, loved and served by all men; that the need of Jesus’ Heart was to communicate to all men His gifts of grace and glory.  She knew, too, that it was the mission of the Holy Spirit to extend and perfect in the hearts of men the reign of Jesus Christ, and that the Church had been founded only … Continue reading

Mary, the Face of God’s Mercy

Our Lady of Guadalupe

In 1531, the apparition and miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe showed the face of God’s merciful love to hundreds of thousands of native Mexicans who had never heard the Gospel of Christ. When a beautiful lady appeared to St. Juan Diego, a native Christian, calling herself his Mother and asking for a chapel to be built, the bishop understandably asked for a sign.  The lady instructed Juan Diego to fill his rough peasant’s cloak with the Castilian roses miraculously growing on the hilltop.  She arranged them with her own hands.  As Juan Diego opened his cloak before the bishop, the roses cascaded to the floor, revealing the miraculous … Continue reading

800th Jubilee – Dominican Rosary Meditations and Plenary Indulgence

Over 800 years ago our Holy Father St. Dominic began his life work, gathering men around him to preach God’s Truth for the salvation of souls after the example of the apostles.  As the “holy preaching” grew by the grace of God, St. Dominic saw the need for universal approval to free his brethren to preach the Word not only in one diocese but wherever needed in the Church.  In 1216, he obtained the desired approval from Pope Honorius III.  From November 7, 2016 to January 21, 2017, the Order of Preachers celebrates the 800th Jubilee (Anniversary) of this great event. Among the first fruits of St. Dominic’s holy preaching … Continue reading
