Oh Come, Divine Messiah! The joy of Our Lady is truly ours in this Advent Season leading up to the luminously beautiful celebration of Christ’s Birth. One of the blessings of living in the Monastery is that of being free from the hustle and bustle that has come to be associated with preparation for Christmas. While there is much to do during Advent, we can still focus on preparing for the coming of the Infant Jesus. Like most folks, we accumulate a lot of “excess baggage” on our pilgrimage to Heaven. Silence helps us discover that baggage and rid ourselves of it. During Advent we enter the “desert” of Silence … Continue reading

St. Dominic’s Feast Day Newsletter 2016

We wish everyone a blessed feast of our Holy Father St. Dominic, a most special celebration during this 800th Jubilee! On the morning of January 25th, during this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, our postulant Sister Chelsea prostrated before Mother asking for “God’s mercy and yours.” This was gladly given as the ceremony of the Reception of the Dominican Habit unfolded. As she began her canonical Novitiate period, Sister also received her new name: Sister Mary Rose of the Pure Heart, a triple invocation of Our Lady, the Mystical Rose. Please keep her in your prayers as she continues to learn and be formed in the beauty of the Dominican life. … Continue reading

Christmas Newsletter 2015

Greetings for a blessed Christmas during this double Jubilee! Yes, this year we celebrate Our Lord’s Birth in the midst of two other joyous celebrations. First, the Dominican Order observes its 800th Anniversary of Papal Approval from November 7, 2015 to January 21, 2017. From December 8, 2015 to November 20, 2016, the Church celebrates the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. In Marbury, we celebrated the opening of the 800th Jubilee on November 7, Feast of All Saints of the Dominican Order, with a long awaited gathering with the Dominican Laity from Birmingham. Fr. Innocent Smith, O.P. offered Mass for the occasion. With the addition of two Dominican Sisters of St. … Continue reading

St. Dominic’s Feast Day Newsletter 2015

Happy feast of our Holy Father Saint Dominic! With joy we welcomed our new postulant Sister Chelsea to the monastery on January 25. Sister comes to us from both coasts, as she grew up in California but attended college and afterward worked in Washington, D.C. The proximity of the Dominican House of Studies gave her the opportunity to know the Dominicans first hand. This led her to discern a Dominican vocation and eventually to contemplative life in our monastery. Every year we celebrate Mother’s Day in honor of our Mother Prioress. The preceding weeks find the whole monastery humming with preparations: the embroidery machine is turning out new tabernacle curtains … Continue reading
